With a strong, slightly bitter taste, celery combined perfectly with milder flavors like carrot or chicken.
In Greek cuisine is found frequently in soups and legumes, but also blends well with tomato or raw in salad or brased food.
According to Hippocrates, celery calms the nervous system. The plant is mentioned by Homer. In the Iliad, Achilles heal horses with celery and in Odyssey the cave of Calypso surrounded by violets and wild celery.
